STS 79, also known as Atlantis (STS-79), is a crewed spacecraft with a winged orbiter configuration manufactured by RWI for the US. Launched on September 16, 1996, from LC39A at AFETR using a Space Shuttle launch vehicle, it has dimensions of 37.3 meters in length and span, and 23.8 meters in diameter. The spacecraft weighs 100,232 kg at launch and 89,820 kg dry. It is equipped with fuel cells and batteries for power, and a propulsion system consisting of 2 x OME (AJ10-190) motors, along with an RCS thruster system comprising 17 units. The satellite's shape is described as a box with two wings and a fin. Its mission is to serve as a crewed spacecraft and it is owned by JSC.
