It was equipped with a Priroda-4 imaging system consisting of two KFA-1000 and three KATE-200 cameras for capturing images, using film return technology to deliver its observations. The satellite measured 6.5 meters in length with a diameter of 2.4 meters and a span of 6.5 meters, having a dry mass of 2555 kg. It was launched from the PLMSC site on LC16/2 using a Soyuz-U-PVB launch vehicle. The RESURS F-9 was powered by batteries and utilized an 11D82M maneuver module for propulsion. Its shape resembled a sphere with a DCone, designed to support its mission of Earth observation.
