COSMOS 1944, also known as Kosmos-1944, is a Yantar'-1KFT satellite launched on May 18, 1988, from the TYSMC launch site using a Soyuz-U launch vehicle from LC1. The spacecraft measures 6.5 meters in length and diameter with a span of 6.5 meters, and it has a dry mass of 2720 kilograms. Its configuration includes a Yantar Bus and Zenit reentry module. This satellite was used for area reconnaissance using photo (film return type) technology and is equipped with two deployable solar arrays and batteries for power generation. The spacecraft's shape is described as a Sphere + DCone, and it has an RCS of 55.02. It was manufactured by TSSKB and owned by VTS, with the payload designated Kometa No. 8L.
