Summary
COSMOS 1656 (also known as Kosmos-1656) is a SIGINT satellite launched by the Soviet Union on May 30, 1985, from the TYMSC launch site using a Proton-K/DM-2 launch vehicle. The spacecraft, manufactured by YUZH and operated by TSN108, has dimensions of 4.5 meters in length, 1.4 meters in diameter, and a span of 22.7 meters. It weighed 3250 kilograms at launch and had the same dry mass. Equipped with Tselina-2 No. 2L payload for SIGINT operations and powered by two deployable solar arrays along with batteries, COSMOS 1656 was designed to operate for approximately one year in a cylindrical shape with two panels and an antenna configuration.
