Summary
COSMOS 1162, also known as Kosmos-1162, is a military communication satellite launched by the Soviet Union on February 11, 1980, from the PLMSC launch site using the LC132/2 launch pad and Kosmos 11K65M launch vehicle. The satellite's mission was to serve as part of a military communication system. It has dimensions of 0.8 meters in length, diameter, and span, with a dry mass of 60 kilograms and an identical launch mass. Equipped with solar cells and batteries for power supply, the satellite is shaped polyhedrally and operated within a short lifetime of approximately six months post-launch on February 12, 1980. The satellite's payload consisted of the Strela-1M Blok 24 No. 7 communication equipment, and it was manufactured by NPOPM for GUKOSR, the state organization responsible for space research in the Soviet Union.
