Summary
IRIDIUM 170, also known as Iridium Next SV170, is a communication and traffic monitoring satellite designed by NGISGA for IRIDS (Iridium). It was launched on January 11, 2019, from AFWTR's SLC4E pad using a Falcon 9 launch vehicle. The satellite features a configuration known as ELiTeBus-1000 with dimensions of 3.1 meters in length and 1.5 meters in diameter, spanning 9.4 meters. It has a dry mass of 700 kilograms and was launched with an overall mass of 860 kilograms. Equipped with L-band payload, Ka-band cross-links and downlinks, ADS-B payload, and AIS-receivers (present on 58 satellites), IRIDIUM 170 utilizes two deployable solar arrays and batteries for power supply. The satellite is expected to have a design lifetime of 10 years, with plans for an extended operational life of up to 15 years.
