Summary
IRIDIUM 160 (also known as Iridium Next SV160) is a communication and traffic monitoring satellite manufactured by NGISGA for IRIDS (Iridium). Launched on July 25, 2018, from Vandenberg Air Force Base's SLC4E pad aboard a Falcon 9 launch vehicle, the satellite has dimensions of 3.1 meters in length, 1.5 meters in diameter, and spans 9.4 meters with its deployable solar arrays. It weighs 700 kg dry and had a launch mass of 860 kg. The satellite's design includes L-band payload for communication services, Ka-band cross-links and downlinks for data relay, an ADS-B payload, and an AIS-receiver (one among 58 satellites equipped with this feature). It is configured as a half hex prism with two panes and operates on solar power with batteries. Its mission is designed to last up to 10 years with plans for it to operate for 15 years.
