Summary
GSAT0222 (GALILEO 26), also known as GalileoSat-26, is a navigation satellite belonging to the Galileo constellation and operated by GSAEU (European Union Agency for the Space Programme). Launched on July 25, 2018, from Guiana Space Center's ELA3 pad aboard an Ariane 5ES launch vehicle, it has a configuration known as SmartMEO. The satellite measures 2.7 meters in length and 1.6 meters in diameter with a span of 14.7 meters due to its solar arrays. It features deployable solar arrays for power generation along with batteries. At launch, the satellite had a mass of 715 kilograms, including dry mass of 700 kilograms. Equipped with a Galileo Navigation payload and MEO SAR (Search And Rescue) equipment, GSAT0222 is designed to provide navigation services. It has a box shape with two panels and an AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control System). The satellite's expected operational lifetime is 12 years, with its primary mission being navigation support. Manufactured by OHB, the satellite was launched from French Guiana and entered stable orbit on the same date as launch, July 25, 2018.
