Summary
IRIDIUM 142, also known as Iridium Next SV142, is a communication and traffic monitoring satellite launched by IRIDS on March 30, 2018, from AFWTR SLC4E using the Falcon 9 launch vehicle. The satellite features a configuration of ELiTeBus-1000 with dimensions including a length of 3.1 meters, diameter of 1.5 meters, and span of 9.4 meters. It has a dry mass of 700 kg and was launched at a mass of 860 kg. Equipped with an L-band payload, Ka-band cross-links and downlinks, and ADS-B payload (among other equipment), the satellite is powered by two deployable solar arrays and batteries. The design lifetime is 10 years, although it has been planned for 15 years. Its shape is described as a Half Hex Prism with 2 panels, and it was manufactured by OATKGA.
