Summary
IRIDIUM 148, also known as Iridium Next SV148, is a communication and traffic monitoring satellite operated by IRIDS (Iridium LLC). It was launched on March 30, 2018, from AFWTR SLC4E using a Falcon 9 launch vehicle. The spacecraft has dimensions of 3.1 meters in length, 1.5 meters in diameter, and spans 9.4 meters with its deployable solar arrays. It features an ELiTeBus-1000 configuration based on the EliteBus bus system, manufactured by OATKGA (OneWeb Technologies Inc.). Its dry mass is 700 kg and launch mass was 860 kg. Equipped with a L-band payload, Ka-band cross-links and downlinks, ADS-B payload, and AIS-receiver, IRIDIUM 148 supports communication services and traffic monitoring from its designed 10-year lifetime, with plans for extended operation up to 15 years. The satellite is powered by two deployable solar arrays and batteries, adopting a half hex prism shape with two panels.
