Summary
IRIDIUM 149, also known as Iridium Next SV149, is a communication and traffic monitoring satellite launched on March 30, 2018, from AFWTR SLC4E using a Falcon 9 launch vehicle. The spacecraft measures 3.1 meters in length with a diameter of 1.5 meters and spans 9.4 meters when its solar arrays are deployed. It has a dry mass of 700 kilograms and was manufactured by OATKGA for IRIDS, the owner. Its primary equipment includes an L-band payload, Ka-band cross-links and downlinks, ADS-B payload, and AIS-receiver technology (present on 58 satellites). The satellite is powered by two deployable solar arrays and batteries and has a planned lifetime of up to 15 years. It operates in the shape of a Half Hex Prism with two panels and was designed for communication purposes as well as traffic monitoring.
