Summary
The MKA-PN 2 (RELEC), also known as Vernov, is a Russian scientific satellite designed to study solar cosmic rays and the magnetosphere. Launched on July 8, 2014, from Tyuratam Space Center's LC31 pad using a Soyuz-2-1B launch vehicle, it was manufactured by NPOLO for NPOLO/IKI. The satellite uses a Karat-Bus configuration and has dimensions of 1 meter in length, diameter, and span. With a dry mass of 288 kg and the same launch mass, it is powered by three deployable fixed solar arrays and batteries. Equipped with an APPT-45-2 thruster for propulsion, MKA-PN 2 carried the MKA-FKI No. 2 payload to conduct its scientific mission. The satellite had a planned lifetime of three years but achieved only five months of operation. Its shape is described as box-like and has a radar cross-section (RCS) of 1.371 square meters.
