Summary
COSMOS 2479, also known as Kosmos-2479, is an early warning satellite owned by PVO and manufactured by NPOL/KOMET. It was launched on March 30, 2012, from the TYMSC launch site using a Proton-K/DM-2 launch vehicle at Launch Pad LC81/24. The satellite has dimensions of 5 meters in length, 2 meters in diameter, and spans up to 10 meters when its components are deployed. It weighs 2200 kg dry and had a launch mass of 2580 kg. Equipped with an IR-telescope as part of its payload (Oko-1 No. 7128), COSMOS 2479 is powered by two deployable solar arrays and batteries, designed for a mission lifetime of 5 to 7 years. The satellite's shape consists of a stepped cylinder with two panels, and it features a configuration known as US-KMO-Bus based on the Prognoz bus design.
