It was launched on September 4, 2010, from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XICLF) using a Chang Zheng 3B launch vehicle from Launch Pad LC2. The satellite has dimensions of 3.6 meters in length, 2.4 meters in diameter, and spans 15.5 meters with its solar arrays deployed. It has a dry mass of 2,500 kilograms and weighed 5,100 kilograms at launch. Equipped with a DFH-4 bus, ZHONGXING-6A carries 24 C-band, 8 Ku-band, and 1 S-band active transponders for communication purposes. It is powered by two deployable solar arrays and batteries. The satellite was planned to have a lifetime of 15 years but achieved an operational span of 11 years. Its shape consists of a box with two panels, and it has a radar cross-section (RCS) of 63.0957 square meters.
