Summary
VENESAT-1, also known as Simon Bolivar, is a communication satellite owned by ABAE and operated under the Venesat payload mission. Launched on October 29, 2008, from Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XICLF) using the Chang Zheng 3B launch vehicle from LC2 pad, it has a designed lifetime of 15 years. The satellite is based on the DFH-4 bus configuration and was manufactured by CAST. It measures 3.6 meters in length, 2.4 meters in diameter, with a span of 15.5 meters when its solar arrays are deployed. At launch, VENESAT-1 had a mass of 5050 kg, reducing to a dry mass of 2500 kg after depletion. The satellite is powered by two deployable solar arrays and batteries. It carries equipment including 14 C-band, 12 Ku-band, and 2 Ka-band transponders for communication purposes. Its shape consists of a box with two panels.
