Summary
EGYPTSAT 1, also known as MisrSat 1, is an Earth Observation and Technology satellite operated by NARSS (National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences). Launched on April 17, 2007, from the TYSMC launch site using a Dnepr launch vehicle, it has a configuration of the MS-1TK platform. The satellite measures 0.5 meters in length and diameter with a span of 2 meters and had a dry mass of 100 kilograms at launch. It is equipped with an infra-red imager, high-resolution multispectral imager, and a store and forward communications payload. Its power system consists of four deployable fixed solar arrays and batteries. EGYPTSAT 1 was manufactured by YUZHUA and its shape is described as a box with four panels and an antenna. The planned lifetime was five years, but it achieved only 3.5 years in orbit.

The Rocket That Refused to Sink

On April 18, 2014, a Falcon 9 first stage did something no orbital rocket had ever done before. It fired its engines on the way down, steered itself through the atmosphere using grid fins that did not yet exist, and touched the Atlantic Ocean softly enough to survive the impact. Nobody recovered it. The data was the whole point.
