The PROGRESS-M 44 satellite, also known as Progress M-44, is an unmanned cargo spacecraft designed for resupply missions to space stations. Launched on February 26, 2001, from the Tyuratam Space Center (TYMSC), Launch Complex 1 (LC1), it used a Soyuz-U-PVB launch vehicle and was manufactured by PROGT. The satellite has dimensions of 7.9 meters in length and diameter with a span of 7.9 meters, and its dry mass is 4500 kg while the launch mass was 6860 kg. It is equipped with two deployable fixed solar arrays and batteries for power supply. Its shape consists of a sphere, cone, cylinder, and two panels, and it uses the KTDU-80 (S5.80) motor. The satellite's purpose was to deliver cargo as part of its mission designation. It is owned by RKKE and carries the payload Progress 7K-TGM No. 244.
