ZHONGXING-5A, also known as Zhongwei 1, is a communication satellite with the OBJECT_ID 1998-033A and BUS A2100 configuration, manufactured by LMEW for CHORI (China Radio and TV Broadcasting Corporation International). Launched on May 30, 1998, from Xichang Satellite Launch Center's LC2 pad using a Chang Zheng 3B launch vehicle, this satellite has dimensions of 4.5 meters in length, 2.5 meters in diameter, and spans up to 21 meters when its solar arrays are deployed. At launch, it had a mass of 2917 kg with a dry mass of 1200 kg. It is equipped with 18 C-band transponders and 20 Ku-band transponders for communication purposes and powered by two deployable solar arrays along with batteries. The satellite's shape can be described as box-like with two panels, and it has an RCS (Reflective Cross Section) of 56.0458 m². Its intended operational lifetime was set at 15 years.
