IRIDIUM 65 is a communication satellite launched on April 7, 1998, from the Tyuratam Space Center (TYMSC) using a Proton-K/17S40 launch vehicle from Launch Pad LC81/23. It has dimensions of 3.5 meters in length and 1 meter in diameter with a span of 5 meters. The satellite weighs 662 kilograms at launch, with a dry mass of 556 kilograms. Its configuration is LM-700A, manufactured by MOTO/LMMS for the mission to provide communication services. It uses two deployable solar arrays and batteries for power.
