GALAXY 8 (G-8), also known as Galaxy 8i, is a communication satellite owned by PAN and manufactured by HSES using the HS-601HP / BSS-601HP configuration. Launched on December 8, 1997, from LC36B at AFETR (Air Force Eastern Test Range) aboard an Atlas IIAS launch vehicle, it stabilized in orbit the following day and has a mission lifespan of 15 years. It is equipped with 32 Ku-band transponders, two deployable solar arrays, and batteries for power supply. The satellite measures 4 meters in length, 3.2 meters in diameter, and spans 26.2 meters when its solar panels are deployed. Its dry mass is 1962 kilograms, with a launch mass of 3558 kilograms. The shape of the spacecraft is described as "Box + 2 Pan," and it has an RCS (Reaction Control System) area of 24.9519 square meters.
