BION 11 was a life science satellite launched on December 24, 1996, from Plesetsk Cosmodrome's Launch Pad LC43/4 using a Soyuz-U launch vehicle. The spacecraft, known as Bion No. 11, measured 6.5 meters in length and had a diameter of 2.4 meters with a span of 6.5 meters. It was equipped with batteries for power and had a dry mass and launch mass both equal to 2040 kilograms. The satellite operated on a Zenit Bus configuration, manufactured by TSSKBP, and its mission was focused on life science research. BION 11's shape consisted of a sphere plus a DCone, and it had an RCS value of 23.0577. The motor used for the satellite was the 11D82M. The ownership of the satellite was shared by IMBP/TSSKBP, and its purpose aligned with conducting life science experiments in space.
