Summary
COSMOS 2236 [GLONASS], also known as Kosmos-2235, is a Russian navigation satellite launched on February 17, 1993, from the Tyuratam Space Center (TYMSC) using the Proton-K/DM-2 launch vehicle. With a configuration of 3-Axis stabilized and equipped with two deployable solar arrays and batteries for power, it has dimensions of 4 meters in length, 1.5 meters in diameter, and a span of 7.8 meters. The satellite weighs 1300 kg at launch and has a dry mass of 1200 kg. Manufactured by POL, its mission is to support the GLONASS navigation system, carrying the Uragan No. 59L payload. It became stable on February 18, 1993, and was expected to operate for three years. The satellite's shape consists of a cylinder with antennas and two panels, and it has an RCS (reflective cross-section) of 3.0902 square meters. Owned by VKS, COSMOS 2236 [GLONASS] contributes to the navigation mission critical for Russian military and civilian use.
