MOLNIYA 1-85, also known as Molniya-1, is a communication satellite launched by Russia on January 13, 1993, from Plesetsk Cosmodrome using the Molniya 8K78M launch vehicle from Launch Pad LC43/4. It measures 4.4 meters in length with a diameter of 1.4 meters and spans 8.6 meters when its equipment is deployed. The satellite has a dry mass of 1,620 kilograms and launched with a mass of 1,670 kilograms. Equipped with 6 deployable solar arrays and batteries for power generation, it was designed for a three-year lifetime in orbit. Manufactured by NPOPM (NPO Mashinostroyeniya), the satellite is owned by VKS (Russian Aerospace Forces) and carries a Molniya-1T No. 92L payload, configured as KAUR-2, with its shape described as Cyl + 6 Pan. The RCS (Reaction Control System) has an area of 18.8271 square meters.
