PION 5, also known as Pion-Germes-1, is a spherical satellite manufactured by SGAU and owned by SGAU/RKA. It was launched on August 19, 1992, from PLMSC's LC16/2 launch pad using a Soyuz-U launch vehicle. With dimensions of 0.3 meters in length, diameter, and span, it has a dry mass of 50 kg and carried the same as its payload. The satellite was equipped with a transmitter powered by batteries and was designed to operate for two months. Its primary mission was to study atmosphere density and perform calibration tasks. PION 5 reached stability on September 1, 1992, and had an RCS of 0.21.
