USA 40, also known by its NORAD catalog ID 20167 and OBJECT_ID 1989-061B, is a satellite launched on August 8, 1989, from Launch Complex 39B at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station aboard the Space Shuttle. It has dimensions of 9 meters in length with a diameter and span of 3.6 meters each. The spacecraft's dry mass is 4500 kg, while its launch mass was 5692 kg. Its purpose is communication relay, equipped with solar cells and batteries for power generation. USA 40 is owned by the National Reconnaissance Office/Space and Missile Systems Center (NRO/SAFSP) and carries a payload known as QUASAR 7.
