COSMOS 2021, also known as Kosmos-2021, is an area reconnaissance satellite launched on May 24, 1989, from the Tyuratam Space Center (TYMSC) Launch Complex 1 using a Soyuz-U launch vehicle. The spacecraft, part of the Yantar'-1KFT series with a configuration consisting of a Yantar Bus and Zenit reentry module, was manufactured by TSSKB for the VTS. It has dimensions of 6.5 meters in length and diameter, 2.4 meters in width, and a dry mass of 2720 kilograms. The satellite's mission is to perform area reconnaissance through photography with a film return type system, powered by two deployable solar arrays and batteries. Its shape combines elements of a sphere and a DCone, and it has a radar cross-section (RCS) of 39.3 square meters.
