COSMOS 2017 (also known as Kosmos-2017) is a reconnaissance satellite launched on April 6, 1989, from the PLMSC launch site using Soyuz-U-PVB launch vehicle. The spacecraft, with a configuration based on the Zenit bus and equipped with Oblik No. 374 payload, has dimensions of 6 meters in length and diameter of 2.2 meters, spanning 6 meters. It was manufactured by TSSKB and designed for photographic reconnaissance missions using film return technology. The satellite's dry mass is 2655 kg, which is also its launch mass, powered by batteries with a surface area of 20.4 m². Its shape consists of a sphere and cone. Launched on the same date it was stabilized, COSMOS 2017 serves reconnaissance purposes for an unknown owner (UNKS).
