COSMOS 1659 (also known as Kosmos-1659) is a reconnaissance satellite launched by the Soviet Union on June 13, 1985. It was equipped with the Oblik No. 317 payload for photographic reconnaissance and film return. The spacecraft uses the Zenit bus configuration, has dimensions of 6 meters in length and diameter of 2.2 meters, and a span of 6 meters. With a launch mass and dry mass both at 2655 kg, it is powered by batteries and features a motor system including the 11D82M engine and S5.120 maneuver module. The satellite was launched from LC16/2 in Plesetsk Cosmodrome using the Soyuz-U launch vehicle. It was manufactured by TSSKB for GUKOS, with its primary mission being photographic reconnaissance.
