COSMOS 1649, also known as Kosmos-1649, is a reconnaissance satellite launched by GUKOS on May 15, 1985, from the PLMSC launch site using a Soyuz-U launch vehicle. The spacecraft has dimensions of 6 meters in length and diameter of 2.2 meters with a span of 6 meters. It features a dry mass of 2655 kg, equivalent to its launch mass. COSMOS 1649 is powered by batteries and equipped with an Oblik No. 314 payload for reconnaissance purposes using film return technology. The satellite has a spherical shape with a DCone configuration and uses the Zenit bus, manufactured by TSSKB. Its mission involved capturing photographic images to be returned via film canisters.
