MOLNIYA 1-60, also known as Molniya-1, is a communication satellite launched on March 16, 1984, from the PLMSC launch site using the LC41/1 pad with a Molniya 8K78M launch vehicle. The satellite was manufactured by NPOPM and has dimensions of 4.4 meters in length, 1.4 meters in diameter, and an 8.6-meter span. It had a dry mass of 1620 kilograms and a launch mass of 1650 kilograms. Equipped with six deployable solar arrays and batteries for power, the satellite operated under the ownership of GUKOS and was part of the KAUR-2 configuration series based on the Molniya-1 bus design. The primary mission objective was communication, utilizing a payload known as the Molniya-1K No. 70L. With an expected lifetime of three years, MOLNIYA 1-60 played a significant role in early Soviet satellite communications technology.
