Summary
EKRAN 12, also known as Ekran, is a communication and direct broadcasting satellite manufactured by NPOPM for MSVYAZ in the Soviet Union (SU). Launched on March 16, 1984, from LC200/39 at TYMSC using a Proton-K/DM launch vehicle, it has a configuration known as KAUR-3 and is part of the Ekran bus series. The satellite measures 5.5 meters in length with a diameter of 2.5 meters and a span of 9 meters. It carries one UHF transponder at 200 W along with a C-band uplink and uses two deployable solar arrays for power generation, supplemented by batteries. With a launch mass of 2000 kg and a dry mass of 1850 kg, EKRAN 12 has an RCS value of 6.2029 m² and its shape is described as cylindrical with two panels and a plate. The satellite had a planned lifetime of 3 years.
