MOLNIYA 3-22, also known as Molniya-3, is a communication satellite launched on December 21, 1983, from the Plesetsk Launch Site (LC41/1) using a Molniya 8K78M launch vehicle. The satellite was manufactured by NPOPM and operated under the mission of providing communication services for about three years. It measures 3.6 meters in length with a diameter of 1.6 meters, spans 8.1 meters, and has a dry mass of 1700 kilograms. Its power comes from six deployable solar arrays producing up to 1000 watts and batteries. The satellite is equipped with a KDU-414A (S5.114) or 11D414NS motor, has a shape described as Cyl + 6 Pan, and an RCS of 0.5. It was owned by NPOPM/MSVYAZ and its payload is identified as Molniya-3 No. 35L.
