STS 8, also known as Challenger (STS-8), is a winged orbiter spacecraft with NORAD identification number 14312 and OBJECT ID 1983-089A, manufactured by RWI for the United States. It was launched on August 30, 1983, from Launch Complex 39A (LC39A) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station using a Space Shuttle launch vehicle. The spacecraft has dimensions of 37.3 meters in length and span with a diameter of 23.8 meters. It had a dry mass of 83,340 kilograms and a launch mass of 90,586 kilograms. Equipped with fuel cells and batteries for power, it was designed as a crewed spacecraft mission. STS 8 features two OME (AJ10-190) motors and has an RCS system for propulsion control. The satellite's shape is characterized by a box design with wings and fins. It is owned by JSC and its payload identifier is OV-099.
