Summary
COSMOS 1476 (also known as Kosmos-1476) is a military communication satellite launched by the Soviet Union on July 6, 1983, from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome LC132/2 launch pad using a Kosmos 11K65M launch vehicle. The spacecraft has dimensions of 0.8 meters in length, diameter, and span with a dry mass of 60 kg, identical to its launch mass. Its mission is dedicated to military communication purposes, equipped with solar cells and batteries for power supply. Manufactured by NPOPM (NPO Precision Mechanics), the satellite was part of the Strela-1 11F625 bus series and orbited for a lifetime of about six months. It carried a payload named Strela-1M Blok 34 No. 4, owned by GUKOS (Main Directorate of Space Armaments). The satellite has a polyhedral shape with a radar cross-section (RCS) of 0.679 m².
