COSMOS 1406, also known as Kosmos-1406, is a reconnaissance satellite launched on September 8, 1982, from the PLMSC site using Soyuz-U launch vehicle from pad LC41/1. It was manufactured by TSSKB and uses the Zenit bus configuration under the Fram platform. The satellite's dimensions are 6 meters in length with a diameter of 2.2 meters and a span of 6 meters, and it has a dry mass and launch mass both at 2455 kg. Equipped with Priroda-3 equipment for photo reconnaissance (film return type), COSMOS 1406 is powered by batteries and uses the shape of a sphere plus DCone for its structure. Its motors include 11D82M and S5.120 (maneuver module). The mission's purpose was to conduct photographic reconnaissance missions, returning film for analysis.
