COSMOS 1253 (also known as Kosmos-1253) is a military communication satellite launched on March 6, 1981, from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome using the Kosmos 11K65M launch vehicle. It has dimensions of 0.8 meters in length, diameter, and span with a dry mass of 60 kilograms. The satellite's mission is to facilitate military communication and it was equipped with solar cells and batteries for power supply. Launched by NPOPM under the ownership of GUKOS (the Main Directorate of Space Forces), COSMOS 1253 had an operational lifetime of approximately six months. Its payload consisted of a Strela-1M Blok 27 No. 4, and it was manufactured in the Soviet Union with a polyhedral shape and a radar cross-section (RCS) of 0.6713 square meters.
